From Sanctuary to Sofa: Four Adoption Stories That Warm Our Hearts
From mountain hideaways to cozy living rooms, these four cats prove that second chances can lead to picture-purrfect endings. Meet Gothel, Mercedes, Jackson, and Naga — four Lanai Lions whose adoption journeys remind us why we do what we do.
Gothel: The Shoulder-Riding Sweetheart Gothel had a gentle spirit that visitors couldn’t help but notice. When the Newswick family from California visited the sanctuary, she curled up on their laps and hearts. Soon after, they welcomed her home to meet her new feline siblings, Felix and Lily. Gothel now spends her days riding on shoulders, snuggling in laps, and meowing cheerful greetings.
Mercedes: A Survivor’s Sunbeam Three-legged and full of heart, Mercedes arrived at the sanctuary in 2021 after a serious injury. But his greatest challenge came later: stomatitis, a painful dental condition. After surgery and care funded by our generous supporters, Mercedes transformed. He was adopted by a family who saw beyond his scars and now spends his days soaking up sunshine in Maui.
Jackson: The Senior Statesman At 16 years old, Jackson — our former Cat-idate and Senior Center greeter—was a fixture at the sanctuary. His story reached the heart of a compassionate pilot who adopted him and flew him home in her Cessna. Jackson now enjoys his golden years in luxury, where he continues to rule with a gentle paw.
Naga: A Confident Climber Finds His Clan Naga, a sleek black beauty, was adopted by longtime supporter Kent, who has adopted four cats from us. Naga joined Sharky, Chunky, and RJ in a home with a custom backyard catio. His bold spirit and playful energy fit right in, showing how even the shyest sanctuary cats can flourish in the right home.
