700 rescued cats.
One SHORT ferry ride from Maui.

Meet more than 700 rescued cats at one of Hawaiʻi’s most unique attractions. Enjoy free admission and experience a quieter side of Hawaiʻi on the secluded island of Lānaʻi, just a short ferry ride from Maui. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Visit the Lanai Cat Sanctuary?

Home to more than 700 rescued cats, the Lanai Cat Sanctuary is one of Hawaiʻi’s most unique visitor experiences. Across four acres of open-air sanctuary, rescued cats receive a safe home for life while Hawaiʻi’s native birds are given a better chance to thrive. Visitors can wander the grounds at their own pace, meet friendly cats, and watch formerly feral cats continue their journey toward trusting people. Along the way, you’ll discover how compassion, conservation, and creativity can work together to create a better future for both cats and birds.

But the experience is about more than cats. With a population of just 3,000 residents and no traffic lights, Lanaʻi offers a glimpse of a quieter Hawaiʻi that few visitors ever experience. Free from crowds and large-scale development, the island moves at its own pace, making a visit to the Sanctuary feel like stepping back to a simpler time.

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on visitors, donors, and supporters from around the world to provide food, medical care, and lifelong homes for more than 700 rescued cats. Every visit helps support that mission.

Whether you’re a lifelong cat lover or simply looking for an unforgettable day trip from Maui, the Lanai Cat Sanctuary offers a rare opportunity to connect with remarkable cats, support conservation, and experience a side of Hawaiʻi that few visitors ever see.
