Why Stomatitis Is the Biggest Health Battle Our Sanctuary Cats Face
Stomatitis is a painful inflammation of the mouth that makes eating, grooming, and even sleeping unbearable for many cats. At the Lanai Cat Sanctuary, it’s become one of the most serious health challenges we face — but with your help, we’re turning pain into healing.
When we first raised awareness in 2020, we estimated 75 cats would need treatment. Since then, we’ve performed full-mouth extractions on over 260 cats. Cats like Mercedes, who once struggled to eat or purr from the pain, are now living joyfully, sunbathing, and playing with visitors.
Yet the need continues. As of December 2024, over 50 more cats were still waiting for surgery. Each operation costs hundreds of dollars and requires specialized veterinary care.
What your gift can do:
- $50 provides two veterinary exams
- $300 covers two dental cleanings
- $500 supports anesthesia, surgery, and follow-up care for one stomatitis cat
Together, we can ensure that no cat suffers needlessly. Your gift today will help us continue providing life-saving dental surgeries and compassionate care for cats in pain.
